What is stored
- Your account: email, first name, password (only as a salted scrypt hash), programme, daily goal, time zone.
- Your material: the files you upload, their extracted text, and anything you paste.
- What you create and do: decks, cards, study guides, quizzes, chat messages, answers you type, and your review history.
- A daily count of AI requests per account, to keep costs capped.
What you tell us during onboarding
During onboarding we store your first name, university, subject, study year, preferred language and, optionally, your gender. Gender is optional (“Prefer not to say” is always possible) and is only used to pick the default colour theme; it is never sent to the AI. University, subject, programme and study year are included in AI prompts so explanations match your level. You can change or remove all of it in
Profile.
Where it is stored
On a server rented from IONOS SE, located in the EU (France). Your data is visible only to your own account: every query is restricted to your user in the database itself. Nothing is shared with other users.
AI processing
To generate study material, answer chat questions and read scanned PDFs, the relevant text (or file) is sent to Google's Gemini API, a paid service. Google does not use this content to train its models. Google may process it outside the EU; such transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. Lecture recordings you upload are transcribed by Groq (USA, EU standard contractual clauses, no training on your data, not retained) or, as a fallback, by Google, which deletes them right after (automatically after 48 hours at the latest). Memora keeps the transcript, never the recording. Only record lectures where your university and lecturer allow it. You are interacting with an AI: its answers can be wrong, which is why every claim links to the page it comes from.
Cookies and browser storage
One essential cookie keeps you logged in, and two small ones remember your language and colour theme. The browser also remembers small preferences (theme, your best Match time, whether you dismissed a hint). There is no analytics, no advertising and no tracking.
Legal basis and retention
Processing is necessary to provide the service you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Data is kept until you delete your account. Server backups are overwritten after at most 14 days.
Your rights
You can download all your data and delete your account at any time under
Profile. You also have the right to rectification, restriction and objection, and to complain to the Austrian Data Protection Authority (
dsb.gv.at).
Your uploads
Only upload material you are allowed to use for your own studies. Your files stay private to your account.
